Juniper-Networks-logo EbizBrian Roach, vice president of the federal business and managing director for worldwide government at Juniper Networks, says that the Defense Department and other agencies are increasingly using software-defined networking to streamline IT systems.

Roach writes in a guest piece published Tuesday on Defense Systems that current government efforts in network consolidation, automation and security drive the growing adoption of SDN.

“SDN is a tailor-made strategy for the current state of federal IT,” he says.

“It is a key tenet of network modernization that provides the ability to manage networks more freely and easily than ever before.”

According to Roach, SDN works to support DoD’s Joint Information Environment, network management, application delivery, tenancy management and cybersecurity efforts by utilizing its functions in virtualization, automation and analytics, among others.
