DigitalGlobe has renamed its GeoEye-2 satellite to “WorldView-4,” a 30-centimeter satellite the company plans to launch into space in mid-2016.
Jeffrey Tarr, president and CEO of DigitalGlobe, said Thursday the company set that launch date for WorldView-4 following the Commerce Department’s approval for the sale of imagery with up to 25 centimeters in resolution.
DigitalGlobe intends for the new imagery offering to expand the company’s geospatial big data and analytic technologies and meet the customers’ mapping and monitoring demands.
The company expects the launch of WorldView-4 to raise its earnings.
DigitalGlobe will also push through with the WorldView-3 launch scheduled in August.
