A paper by FireEye‘s senior global threat analyst has been published by NATO’s Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence as the first volume of “The Tallinn Papers,” a cybersecurity research series.
Kenneth Geers sought to highlight how international cyber attacks within a geopolitical context shows the relation between network and national security in his paper entitled “Pandemonium: Nation States, National Security, and the Internet,” FireEye said Thursday.
“As the concept of cyber war moves from theory to reality, it is critical that cyber defense researchers – as well as the public – understand the role that professional hackers and advanced malware now play in the international arena,” Geers explains.
The research series is named after a city in Estonia that was targeted by a massive cyber attack in 2007.
“Pandemonium” is adapted from the 2013 “World War C: Understanding Nation-State Motives Behind Today’s Advanced Cyber Attacks” report by Geers and fellow FireEye researchers Darien Kindlund, Ned Moran and Rob Rachwald.
