Northrop Grumman will provide five Fire Scout MQ-8C unmanned helicopters and two lightweight fuel cells to the U.S. Navy under a $55M contract modification.

Work under the modification will occur through August 2021 in California, Alabama, Texas, Mississippi and other locations within the continental U.S., the Department of Defense said Wednesday.

MQ-8C is designed to support military intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and target acquisition operations.

The company initially secured a $108.1M contract in 2016 to manufacture and deliver 10 MQ-8Cs through August of this year.

DoD noted the service branch will use its fiscal 2018 aircraft procurement funds on the modification.
