Twenty research and technology proposals from 19 U.S. businesses are set to advance to the second phase of NASA‘s Small Business Technology Transfer program.
The space agency said Wednesday the selected companies will collaborate with research organizations to help develop technologies for aeronautics, science, human exploration and operations and space.
The proposals, worth a combined $15 million, include a tool that will help NASA assess new electric propulsion aircraft, a centralized controller that can generate optimal power and restore systems, as well as a modeling system to support the development of solid rocket motors.
Jim Reuter, acting associate administrator for NASA’s space technology mission directorate, said that STTR enables entrepreneurs and research organizations to meet the space agency’s long-term goals and provide advanced aerospace research for its programs.
The STTR initiative provides opportunities for small businesses and research institutions to jointly conduct research and development efforts for the U.S. government.
