The Center for a New American Security has named two national security policy leaders as adjunct senior fellows who will support the organization’s research programs and provide expertise on policy matters.
CNAS said Friday the new adjunct senior fellows are Andrew Krepinevich, former president of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, and James Townsend Jr., former deputy assistant secretary of defense for European and NATO policy.
“They both have a wealth of experience, bold yet practical policy ideas, and a steadfast commitment to America’s national security,” said Michele Flournoy, CEO and co-founder of the Washington-based think tank.
Krepinevich, a U.S. Army veteran, will work within the CNAS defense strategies and assessments program.
He is currently president and CEO of defense consulting firm Solarium, chairman of the Chief of Naval Operations Executive Panel as well as member of the Advisory Council of Business Executives for National Security.
Townsend, who will work within the newly formed trans-Atlantic security program at CNAS, ended his term at the Defense Department on Jan. 20.
The U.S. Navy Reserve veteran has served as a vice president of the Atlantic Council of the United States and director of the defense plans division at the U.S. Mission to NATO.
