A training program sponsored by Raytheon, the U.S. Army and General Motors has graduated 101 soldiers as certified automotive technicians.
The Shifting Gears Automotive Technician Training Program covers 12 weeks of classroom, online and hands-on technical training, Raytheon said Monday.
“Fort Hood soldiers are highly-technical, mechanically-inclined, self-disciplined and dedicated candidates for General Motors,†said Col. Todd Fox, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hood commander.
Launched in 2014, the program has trained four classes of soldiers.
The program is set to certify the fifth class at the end of October.
