The National Cyber Security Awareness Month has entered its fourth week with a focus on help for small- and medium-sized businesses to protect their assets from cyber threats.
The Department of Homeland Security, Capital Factory, the University of Texas and the Austin Chamber of Commerce hosted an event Oct. 21 in Austin to highlight cyber risks, best practices and resources for to small and medium businesses to secure data, National Cyber Security Alliance said Tuesday.
“Every day businesses of all sizes become more dependent on the Internet to serve their customers, grow their business and gain efficiencies,” said Michael Kaiser, executive director of the National Cyber Security Alliance.
“They need to focus on cyber risks and making sure they are doing all they can to protect their networks and valuable data, and create a culture of cybersecurity within their organizations,” Kaiser added.
The NCSA and Better Business Bureau call on enterprises to develop a risk management plan to focus on what corporate and client data needs protection, assess risks, train employees on cybersecurity best practices and prepare a disaster plan.
DHS sponsors the NCSAM in collaboration with the NCSA and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center.
