Raytheon demonstrated microwave and laser weapons systems for countering drone swarms at a U.S. Army experiment held at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in December, the Albuquerque Journal reported Wednesday.

Susan Kelly, Raytheon’s New Mexico site director, told the publication the demonstrations showcased the capacity of a ground-based weapon to simultaneously disable groups of two to three unmanned aerial vehicles using high-power electromagnetic waves.

“We showed the system is now ready and available as a counter-swarm weapon to down multiple drones at once,” Kelly added.

The report said Raytheon’s high-energy laser hit 12 UAVs in flight as well as six stationary mortar projectiles during the exercise.
