MBDA has received a contract to manufacture up to 21,000 wing assemblies for integration with small diameter bombs Boeing will supply to the U.S. Air Force.

MBDA said Tuesday its Diamond Back Wing Assembly employs a tandem wing design that seeks to increase the maneuverability, operational capacity and range of SDB weapons to more than 60 nautical miles.

The Air Force awarded Boeing a $30 million contract modification in September to continue to produce, engineer, test and provide logistics support for SDB weapons.

SDB’s design allows an aircraft platform to carry multiple weapons and hit multiple targets during a single combat sortie, MBDA noted.
