A CAE full-flight simulator has been accepted into service by Poland’s air force for training of SW-4 utility helicopter pilots.

CAE said Tuesday the Polish air force will use the SW-4 FFS installed at the 41st Air Base School in Deblin, Poland, to train the service branch’s cadets to operate the helicopter manufactured by Leonardo subsidiary PZL-Swidnik.

“Simulation-based training has proven its value as a safe and cost-effective means of pilot training that helps to significantly reduce incidents while better preparing aircrews for complex tactical and operational flying,” said Marc-Olivier Sabourin, vice president and general manager of CAE’s Europe/Africa business.

The company equipped the simulator with an electric motion system and a technology platform designed to simulate vibration cues for helicopter pilots.

SW-4 FFS is also built with a high-fidelity visual system, a 210 degree by 80 degree field-of-view dome display and a computer-generated environment that works to visually replicate mission situations.

The simulator runs on the Open Geospatial Consortium Common Database architecture, CAE noted.
