F16FleetThe Defense Logistics Agency has awarded a five-year, $21.5 million contract to Meggitt Safety Systems to provide two-seat canopy actuators for the F-16 jets of the U.S. Air Force and foreign military customers.

DLA’s aviation unit received two bids for the firm-fixed-price contract through a competitive acquisition process and will obligate fiscal year 2016 through fiscal 2021 defense working capital and foreign military sales funds at the time of award, the Defense Department said Tuesday.

Meggitt will perform work at a company facility in California through June 6, 2021.

The F-16 Fighting Falcon, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, is designed to perform air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack functions during various military operations, including suppression of enemy air defense, offensive and defensive counter air, forward air controller and close air support missions.

Simi Valley, California-based Meggitt builds fire protection and safety systems for integration into aircraft, space vehicles, boats, trains, missiles and industrial and energy platforms.
