infrastructure, highwayA joint venture of Fluor and Lane Construction Corp. has been selected to construct a port access road in Charleston, South Carolina, under a contract with the state’s transportation agency.

Fluor-Lane South Carolina will design the roadway to connect the proposed marine container terminal located at the former Naval Base and Interstate 26, Fluor said Tuesday.

“Fluor has been located in South Carolina for more than 80 years, and we are proud to partner with the South Carolina Department of Transportation and South Carolina Ports Authority to advance this important Port Access Road Project,” noted Hans Dekker, president of Fluor’s infrastructure business.

The JV will work to redesign existing roadways to merge container terminal traffic with existing traffic, assist in local and regional planning policies and avoid inconvenience for the traveling public.

Construction of the port access road is scheduled to complete by late 2019.

Fluor will book its portion of the contract in the second quarter of the company’s 2016 fiscal year.
