The U.S. Navy plans to select BAE Systems as the prime contractor for a program to build up cyber defenses that surround the country’s nuclear weapons inventory and other systems, Bloomberg reported Thursday.
Benjamin Katz writes BAE will review and oversee the safety policies for the Lockheed Martin-built Trident missiles under the potential five-year contract, which contains one base year and options to extend work for an additional four years.
Contract work is scheduled to begin Oct. 1.
John Daniels, a spokesperson for the Navy’s Strategic Systems Program, told Bloomberg the service branch aims to bolster the security of U.S. and U.K. Trident missile weapon systems.
The Navy aims to help update a 40-year-old weapons program to prevent hackers from gaining access to nuclear missiles and weapons, according to Bloomberg.
