TYSONS CORNER, VA, January 7, 2021 — Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) has moved to further expand its footprint in the unmanned systems market with the acquisition of Spatial Integrated Systems’ autonomy business for an undisclosed sum, GovCon Wire reported Tuesday.

“2020 was a significant year for HII in the unmanned systems industry, and this acquisition is the perfect complement to our existing portfolio and strategic partnerships,” said Andy Green, an executive vice president and president of HII Technical Solutions and a Wash100 awardee.

Aside from the purchase of the SIS business, HII acquired marine robotics provider Hydroid from Kongsberg, made an equity investment in Sea Machines Robotics and started building a new center of excellence for unmanned systems in the recent months as part of its expansion efforts.
