Elbit Systems’ U.S. arm will be building a prototype lightweight targeting platform that will support the U.S. Marine Corps’ warfighters during ground operations.

The Next Generation Hand-Held Targeting System houses precision azimuth sensors, imaging systems and rugged laser designators and will work to consolidate USMC’s targeting platforms into a handheld device, the company said Monday.

The firm will manufacture the device at a designated Center of Excellence for targeting and electro-optics at Merrimack, N.H.

Ridge Sower, vice president of ground combat and precision targeting solutions at Elbit Systems, said the company has been working with the Marine Corps for over a decade in the development of NGHTS.

“We’re excited to develop this solution, so U.S. Marines are equipped with a robust, dependable and lightweight targeting system in the field,” Sower added.
