The U.S. government may provide the largest growth opportunity for Amazon as the company competes for the Defense Department’s potential 10-year, $10B cloud contract, CNN Business reported Thursday.
The report noted that Amazon is considered to be the frontrunner for the single-award Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure cloud procurement contract.
The JEDI program could position the Seattle-based e-commerce firm to secure additional cloud computing work with federal agencies and potentially increase its competitiveness in the civilian sector, according to the report.
Amazon also stands to benefit from a congressional law that requires the General Services Administration to establish e-commerce platforms for federal purchases worth below $25K.
The company recently partnered with the U.S. Air Force on a pilot program that allows contracting officers to make small procurements on its e-commerce portal through the use of government purchase cards.
