Raytheon has invested $72 million to establish a facility in Andover, Mass., for the company’s radar development, integration and testing efforts.

The 30,000-square-foot facility features two near-field radar test ranges, a 1.5-megawatt substation, a “dual robotic” system for array assembly and automated guided vehicles to facilitate movement of materials, Raytheon said Monday.

The company intends to work on the U.S. Navy‘s AN/SPY-6 air and missile defense radar system at the new space.

Sarah Jennette, a Raytheon program manager, said the opening of the radar development facility comes after the company’s announcement in June that it would invest $100 million to build a radar production facility in Forest, Miss.
