Northrop Grumman has partnered with JITX to develop an automated layout generator intended to accelerate the electronic circuit design process as part of the Intelligent Design of Electronic Assets program.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency selected Northrop in July to lead one of the 11 research teams that will perform work under the IDEA effort, the company said Thursday.

IDEA is among six “Page 3” programs under DARPA’s potential five-year, $1.5B Electronics Resurgence Initiative that aims to advance innovation in the microelectronics sector through new microsystem designs, materials and architectures.

Vern Boyle, vice president of advanced technologies at Northrop’s mission systems business, said the company’s partnership with DARPA through ERI would help improve national security and maintain the country’s leadership in the field of electronics.
