The Department of Energy has announced it will award 179 research and development grants with a combined $3o million value to 149 small businesses across 36 states.
The Phase I R&D grants will be awarded through DOE’s Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs, in support of the department’s Office of Science, DOE said Tuesday.
Firms participating in the R&D effort’s first phase will each be given an estimated $150,000 worth of funds and a work period of six to 12 months.
Entries able to successfully complete Phase I will advance for further development in Phase II that will provide estimated $1 million awards in fiscal 2019 funds, with a maximum two-year work period.
The effort calls for R&D entries in the areas of advanced scientific computing, biological and environmental research, basic energy sciences and nuclear physics.
