Lockheed Martin‘s aeronautics business has been awarded a $34.6 million contract from the U.S. Navy to conduct weapons technology maturation and risk reduction efforts under the F-35 fighter aircraft and Small Diameter Bomb 2 programs.

The Defense Department said Thursday the company will support F-35 and SDB II pre-engineering, manufacturing and development activities for the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force.

DoD added the obligated amount of $6 million at the time of award is from the two service branches’ fiscal 2017 research, development, test and evaluation funds worth.

Contract work will occur through July 2018.

The Navy awarded the contract in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation 6.302-1 guidelines, DoD noted.
