Marillyn Hewson, president, CEO and chairperson of Lockheed Martin, has convened the student finalists of an unmanned aerial system payload design challenge held in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

The company said Friday the year-long program conducted in partnership with Mubadala Investment seeks to engage UAE-based university students to generate ideas in science, technology, engineering and mathematics in efforts to develop a UAS payload.

The challenge tasks participants to design, build and integrate civilian and industrial applications for the Lockheed-built Indago drone.

Lockheed engineers serve as mentors to the final six teams in support of their payload projects in areas such as climate change, oil and gas, emergency response and water management.
