Lockheed Martin‘s space systems business secured a $21.1 million contract modification to fund work on the fifth and sixth Advanced Extremely High Frequency satellite vehicles for the U.S. Air Force.

The Defense Department said Thursday the contract covers AEHF 6 vehicle operational resiliency efforts and Atlas 551 capability support for the two satellites.

Work is scheduled to occur through June 30, 2021, at a company facility in Sunnyvale, California.

AEHF satellites are designed to facilitate communications among strategic command and tactical warfighters who operate on air, ground and sea platforms.
