Space Systems Loral Readies Australia’s 2nd Broadband Network Satellite for Launch

Space Systems Loral has shipped the second satellite developed for Australia’s national broadband network to French Guiana in preparation for the spacecraft’s launch.

The Sky Muster II satellite will take off onboard an Ariane 5 launch vehicle built by Arianespace from the European Spaceport in Kourou, SSL said Wednesday.

The satellite will work to provide high-speed broadband service to Australia alongside the first Sky Muster satellite, the company added.

John Celli, president of SSL, said the satellite service targets underserved users in Australia.

The Ka-band, high-throughput broadband Sky Muster satellites will beam internet service to mainland Australia, Tasmania, Norfolk Island, Christmas Island, Lord Howe Island, Cocos and Macquarie Island in the Antarctic with the use of multiple spot beams.

Sky Muster II builds on the SSL 1300 broadband satellite service platform to support various applications and technologies.
