The Defense Department has started to implement multifactor authentication and biometrics as a new Pentagon-wide security approach in an effort to counter cyber attacks, C4ISR & Networks reported Wednesday.

Justin Lee writes DoD also intends to bolster its network access security through updates to its identity and access management approach.

“The approach to cyber defense is expanding from its original roots, which was to defend the network technically at the point of entry from the public Internet using firewalls and malware signature recognition,” said Mark Testoni, president and CEO of SAP National Security Services.

Testoni added that cyber has become a warfare domain, according to the report.
