The company said Tuesday it will carry out procurement, engineering and construction work for the facility under a contract with Advanced Power affiliate Carroll County Energy LLC.

Scott Osborne, general manager of power at Bechtel, said Bechtel will incorporate emissions control platforms into the power plant and has already issued contracts valued at $15 million to local companies to provide materials and services for the construction of the facility.

Bechtel expects the plant to begin operations in 2017 and generate 700 megawatts of electricity for at least 740,000 households.
