Raytheon logo_EbizRaytheon is set to kick off low rate initial production of small diameter bombs after the company completed a decision briefing for the weapon system in coordination with the U.S. Air Force.

The company conducted the Milestone C briefing after performing functional configuration audit, production readiness review and system verification on the Small Diameter Bomb II system, Raytheon said Monday.

Jim Sweetman, SDB II program director for Raytheon, said the Milestone C achievement marks the government and Raytheon’s efforts to verify that the system meets production requirements.

SDB II operates in millimeter-wave radar, uncooled imaging infrared and semi-active laser modes through the use of Raytheon’s tri-mode seeker.
