Lockheed Martin plans to expand its offices in Victoria, Australia to accommodate a new engineering division that will cater to information communications technology services delivery in the Asia-Pacific region.
The new hub in Clayton suburb is intended to double the workforce at Lockheed Martin Australia’s facilities in Melbourne and operate under the company’s Sondra Barbour-led information systems and global solutions business, Lockheed said Monday.
The defense contractor already employs 150 people in the Dandenong and Glen Waverley suburbs.
It expects the $8 milion investment to open high technology jobs to Victoria state’s ICT graduates and upgrade local skills, particularly in cyber, mobility and big data technologies.
“Following the recent signature of an $800 million contract to transform the ICT environment for the Australian Department of Defence, Victorian staff will play a key role in not only advancing that capability but also providing support for the customer over the next decade,†said Anne Mullins, vice president for global solutions at Lockheed Martin IS&GS.
Lockheed indicated that this support will encompass the areas of large-scale ICT services, cybersecurity, applications development and data management.
