Northrop X-47BDell has provided a commercial off-the-shelf product to support Northrop Grumman‘s X-47B unmanned aircraft for the U.S. Navy‘s Unmanned Combat Air System Carrier Demonstration program.

The Dell COTS technology was used to develop the ground control system for the X-47B, which flew last year to demonstrate carrier-based UAS launch and recovery functions, Dell said Wednesday.

“Developing the X-47B system required us to innovate not just technologically, but also on cost,” said Pablo Gonzalez, Northrop’s program manager for the X-47B.

The X-47B system is a recipient of the Robert J. Collier Trophy and a Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Award for 2013.
